With use steel, bronze and all other metal based instrument strings lose their tone, clarity, brightness and become tarnished. This process is dramatically speeded up by acid and dirt that rubs off fingers whilst playing.

Many players wipe the surface of their strings after playing, but most of the dirt is actually forced under the strings by the action of the fingers, and is then almost impossible to remove. This not only damages the tone and life of the string but also then acts like sandpaper on the finger board and fret wires, eventually resulting in premature string and costly fret wire replacement. Although originally designed for use on Guitars, The Swipe has also been proven to work on ANY instrument using metal based strings. For example, it is excellent at removing excess Rosin from Violin strings, and has been tried and tested by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with great success. Residue Build up

Swipe slides under guitar stringsdon’t get underneath or round strings properly without slackening or awkward threading between strings and fretboard. Material isn’t optimized for removing residue, sweat and chemials. Leaves bobbly bits of fluff behind on the windings.

Cleaning Oils...

leave behind an oily film which is pushed to the underside of the string adding to the overall residue. Sink into string windings deadening the tone. May well nourish your fingerboard, but a layer of oil on your strings will negatively affect your sound. Some contain chemicals which can damage an instruments lacquer.

Gadget Cleaners...

Swipe cleaning under guitar stringsclunky gadget cleaners can’t clean strings from the first fret to last without stretching strings and damaging frets and fingerboard. Can only be used on one type of instrument eg one product for acoustic guitar, another for bass and currently nothing for violins, violas cellos etc. Bulky and not easy to carry around with you.
